We begin this journey about Drones/UAS with an introductory review of history and regulations that lead to their current popularity. The history begins with automatic airplanes, and moves on to milestones such as the first time the word Drone was used, and ends with current definitions and terminology. The discussion then moves into Drone regulations, timeline and current trends. Then we take a trip through the 1980s, 90s, and early 2000s with a fun look back at the technology that came together as a perfect storm. The advancement and miniaturization of technology such as computers, cellular devices, cameras, GPS, and the internet lead the way to the electronic age we now live in as well as the current understanding of the concept of “drones”. The course concludes with a comparison between the Internet of Things (IoT) and the idea behind the Drone of Things (DoT).
