This presentation begins by discussing a number of important definitions related to unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), computer vision (CV) image processing, and mapping standards. It is necessary to discuss mistakes, blunders, errors, and residuals to broach the topic of quality. Definitions specific to digital imagery and mapping are presented. Pertinent survey and map accuracy standards are introduced to show how to produce quality UAS/CV data. Finally, we cover the professional decision about what is appropriate and practical related to the legality of the work and whether you can meet the desired and/or required accuracy and quality of the UAS/CV data.
Objectives:
- Learn what surveying and mapping professionals use to evaluate quality of UAS/CV data.
- Learn where to apply the published map accuracy standards.
- Identify what is appropriate and practical to test using industry standards.
- Learn how to discover where UAS and CV image processing may fail.
- Discuss where it is possible to predict map accuracy using a UAS and CV.
