In this course we talk about some of the issues relating to ethics and professional business practices facing the profession that are most relevant to today’s practice of surveying. We also discuss how making a personal commitment to ethical behavior is much more important than trying to follow some rules. Some of the topics discussed include pincushion corners, moonlighting, recordation, and using insufficient or improper control to perform a survey.

 

Objectives

  • Develop an understanding of what some of the issues face surveyors most commonly
  • Develop an understanding of why personal commitment to ethical behavior is more important that following rules
  • Learn from ethical situations that a surveyor may encounter. In these situations we discuss proper ethical responses to these situations.

Enthusiasm and Engagement

I enjoyed the enthusiasm and engagement that was shown in this video. It is a lot more exciting to watch and listen when the person speaking keeps you intrigued. I also enjoyed how real life story's were involved in the teaching of the content. For me, I am a lot more likely to retain information when the content is compared to real life things.

Current Ethics

I think Current ethics is really important to know for young surveyors like myself who may not even be aware of some of the things Dennis talked about. I enjoyed that.
