This course covers the requirements land surveyors licensed in Oklahoma must follow with respect to corner perpetuation and corner documents filing when conducting property boundary surveys.  The course makes surveyors (and others who are interested) aware of the details of the state statues (Title 65 3.116-3.123) detailing the requirements. The instruction manual provided by the state is discussed, as this is much easier for surveyors to follow when ensuring that the requirements are accomplished.  The course covers details such as definitions of terms, what the compulsory requirements are for filing a certified corner record (CCR), the exceptions and the surveyors obligations when disagreeing with a position in a CCR that they turn up in their research to complete their own survey.  Some examples provided in the instructions are discussed and so are some of the exceptions that reflect peculiarities in the way the U.S. Public Land Survey system was laid out in the state.  While the predominant discussions are about sectionalized land, the instruction manual’s discussion of which corners that are pertinent to land located within platted subdivisions is also covered.

Objectives

  • Have a ready reference for reviewing requirements for corner perpetuation and corner documents filing
  • Learn the definitions associated with the statutes that pertain to CCR in Oklahoma
  • Understand their obligations when they disagree with a previously filed CCR or any part of it
  • Understand how the CCR requirements are to be applied in the case of corners pertinent to land within platted subdivisions
  • Have the tools to prepare their own checklists to use for complying with the CCR process in their own professional practices
