This program introduces the learner to traverse calculations, leading up later in the series to more involved calculations involving coordinate geometry (COGO). The course begins with basics on the concept of surveying networks and how a traverse is one type of such network. We cover open and closed traverses, have a brief discussion on basis for bearings or directions, and conclude with introduce the many ways angles may be measured (interior, exterior, deflection, angle to the right) in the field and expressed on diagrams and maps. Running time 32 minutes.
You will learn…
- How traverses are an essential part of the concept of surveying networks’
- What traverses are
- How to differentiate between open and closed traverses
- How to differentiate between closed traverses that are connecting vs. those that loop
- Why it is important to pay attention to the way angles are measured
- The differences between various types of angles
