We cover methods of volume estimation such as from examination of design profile with existing profile, cross sections (which gets more accurate as the spacing of the sections shortens), borrow (or spoil) pit volumes, and subtraction of one digital terrain model from another, with one representing the finish grade and one representing the existing ground. Concepts such as grade point, pay quantities, cut and fill. The concept of borrow pits is covered. Haul and haul distances as well as balance points determined from mass diagrams are discussed. Running time 26 minutes.
You will learn…
- Methods of volume estimation and how the methods might be selected depending on the accuracy desired
